Marjorie and Larry are a couple that will soon move to Kendal at Oberlin. They graciously gave us permission to share portions of the holiday letter they sent to family and friends this year. As you can see, they are looking forward to their upcoming move to Oberlin.
Leaving Lake Lansing, Dec., 2012
Yup, in Minnesota parlance, our beloved house is on the market, and we’re holding an open house tomorrow. When the house is sold, we’ll move to the vibrant Kendal Retirement Community affiliated with Oberlin College, Marjorie’s alma mater. Having worked there as a development officer in the late 70’s, she knows several Kendal residents. The Conservatory sponsors over 300 concerts a year, and guest lecturers at the College include the likes of Salmon Rushdie. Larry has already been named an Affiliate Scholar in Comparative Literature, and he’s in touch with the new director of the fine Allen Art Museum. Larry will enjoy the French – and Marjorie, the German – table in the dining room. We’ll have a wealth of volunteer opportunities, programs and activities to choose from, including bus trips to special events at the Cleveland Art Museum and Severance Hall, home to the Cleveland Orchestra. As the Cleveland airport is only 25 miles away, family and friends will be able to visit us more easily there than here. And a wonderful place to visit it is… so put us on your list!
So as not to run low on excitement in 2013, we booked a cabin on another Garrison Keillor cruise. It starts in Barcelona and takes us to Marseille, Monte Carlo, Florence, Rome, Naples, Pompeii, Kotor on the Dalmation Coast, Ravenna, and finally Venice… an enticing blend of places we either relish revisiting or have always wanted to see.
Wishing all of you happy holidays and, as the Germans say, a good slide into the New Year!
