Moving Forward, Phase II of Kendal's Master Plan

Kendal cottages along the Meadow Pond

Phase II of Kendal's Master Plan, is well under way. Kendal at Oberlin is enhancing community spaces and will soon build 12 additional cottages for retirement living. These beautiful and spacious homes will be placed around the large pond on the northwest corner of Kendal's campus. The proposed site plan for Phase II is below. Groundbreaking will take place in spring of 2008, with occupancy of the spaces sometime in the spring of 2009.

These newer cottages feature spacious rooms, vaulted ceilings in the living rooms, plenty of storage, large utility rooms with energy-efficient appliances and more. Like all of our cottages, they are built in such a way to maintain and protect the natural beauty of the space that surrounds them. Sizes range from a one-bedroom cottage at 987 square feet to a two-bedrom + den deluxe cottage at 1,849 square feet. The process of getting the necessary approvals for construction is under way.

This will be the second of three groups of new cottages. Phase III will be yet another group of twelve residences, again similar to the ones completed in Phase I. Kendal at Oberlin acquired additional land to accommodate all of the proposed cottages. Planned community center enhancements in Phase II will include improvements to our dining areas and the complete renovation of our Health, Rehab and Wellness Clinic to provide residents with better service. The latter has been completed, and clinic staff moved into the fresh new space in October.

One of several kitchen finish options We plan to begin making commitments for the 12 new cottages (Phase II) by year-end, offering to current residents first. After that, the spaces will be offered to those on the waiting/ready list for the new cottages. The cottages are expected to go quickly.
