Therapy services at Kendal

Kendal's excellence is clearly evident in its outstanding health care programs. lEmphasis is placed on continuing wellness, physical fitness, and maintenance of each individual's highest level of self-care and independence. The fitness center includes Keiser exercise equipment, a four lane lap pool, and therapy pool. Fitness classes and programs strive to meet individual needs and support a managed health approach based on total well-being. See our current schedules for pool programs and fitness classes. A number of these classes include space for non-Kendal residents.

A wide range of health services are provided at Kendal. The health care team includes physicians; nursing staff; social services staff; dietitian; therapy services; and, most importantly, each Kendal resident. The community is located only 1 mile from Allen Medical Center, a full-service acute care hospital, affiliated with the Community Health Partners network.

The range of therapy services includes an extensive program in Creative Art Therapy, which includes art, movement and music therapy.

Our Platinum continuing care contract provides one of the most comprehensive packages of healthcare services, residential services and amenities in Ohio. Of special importance is the fact that our comprehensive Residence and Care contract covers unlimited long term care, when needed, at no additional cost.

Health Care Services Covered by the Platinum Residence and Care Contract (partial list)

  • Interdisciplinary, coordinated health care program that provides a continuum of care on site throughout the resident's lifetime
  • Unlimited long term care, which is not covered by Medicare or supplemental insurance, covered by entry and monthly fees (comprehensive contract)
  • Unlimited temporary days in the health center for personal and skilled nursing care
  • Emergency call systems connecting each residential living unit to the health center
  • Health center staffed by highly qualified professionals 24 hours a day
  • Services of Kendal physicians and specialists to whom our physicians make referrals
  • Therapy services available on site include physical, speech and occupational therapies. Kendal staff also includes certified art and music therapists, an exercise physiologist, fitness and acquatic instructors, and acquatic guards.
  • Highly qualified medical professionals include a geriatrician, advanced practice nurses, and social services staff.
  • Processing of Medicare and supplemental insurance forms and claims
  • An outstanding feature of the Kendal at Oberlin contract is the coverage of these health care costs when Medicare and supplemental insurance no longer pay benefits.

Health Care Services Available at Additional Cost

Some health care services are available on site for the convenience of the resident but are not covered by the fees and most insurances. Such services as dentistry, podiatry, massotherapy, and eye care, for example, will be available on site but will be offered at the resident's expense.

Contract Options

Kendal at Oberlin also offers other contract options. For those who carry a qualifying long term care insurance policy, or those who prefer to self-insure future health care needs, modified agreements are available. These are more limited in health care services, but at reduced up-front cost. In these situations, the resident assumes the risk of paying for some health care expenses at prevailing daily rates.

Kendal also offers options for refundability. Both 50% and 90% agreements are available. Please contact the admissions office for more information.
