Kendal is commited to promoting
continuing wellness, physical fitness, and maintenance of each
individual's highest possible level of self-care and independence. Our full range of health services include:

Fitness programs are organized by both residents and staff. The fitness center includes Keiser exercise equipment, a four lane lap pool, and therapy pool. Fitness classes and programs strive to meet individual needs and support a managed health approach based on total well-being. A number of these classes include space for non-Kendal residents. The cost of fitness programs at Kendal is included in the monthly fee for Kendal residents and members of Kendal at Home.
The Health and Wellness clinic provides medical services for cottage and apartment residents. Staff includes qualified physicians, nursing staff (including our geriatric nurse practitioner), and social service professionals. A wide range of medical professionals offer regular services for the convenience of Kendal at Oberlin residents right here in our clinic.
Therapy services include physical, speech and occupational therapies for all Kendal residents. Outpatient services are also available. State of the art equipment, including the BalanceMaster, and dedicated, caring staff are part of the services at Kendal. Our complete therapy program is managed by Therapy Partners of Ohio.
The Stephens Care Center includes 24 licensed residential care suites (assisted living) and 48 Medicare-approved nursing rooms. All are private rooms. Kendal's Stephens Care center was the first community in Ohio to be accredited as a Person Centered Long Term Care Community by CARF-CCAC. Caring staff We strive to create a home-like environment, rich with opportunities for programs and activities. Creative arts therapies include art, music and movement. These programs are enhanced by numerous volunteers, including Kendal residents and students from Oberlin College.
Northeast Ohio is home to some of the finest hospitals and specialized medical care available. Kendal is located
only 1 mile from Mercy Allen Hospital, a full-service acute care hospital, and affiliated with the Mercy Regional Medical Center in Lorain. Residents also use hospitals in Elyria and Cleveland, including The Cleveland Clinic.
Our Platinum continuing care contract provides one of the most
comprehensive packages of health care services, residential services
and amenities in Ohio. Of special importance is the fact that
our comprehensive Platinum Residence and Care contract covers unlimited
long term care, when needed, at no additional cost.
Health Care Services Covered by the Platinum Residence and Care Contract (partial list)
- Interdisciplinary, coordinated health care program that provides
a continuum of care on site throughout the resident's lifetime
- Unlimited long term care, which is not covered by Medicare
or supplemental insurance, covered by entry and monthly fees
(comprehensive contract)
- Unlimited temporary days in the Stephens Care Center for personal
and skilled nursing care
- Emergency call systems connecting each residential living
unit to the health center
- Health center staffed by highly qualified professionals 24
hours a day
- Services of Kendal physicians and specialists to whom our
physicians make referrals
- Therapy services available on site include physical, speech
and occupational therapies. Kendal staff also includes certified
art and music therapists, an exercise physiologist, fitness and aquatic instructors, and aquatic guards.
- Highly qualified medical professionals include a geriatrician,
advanced practice nurses, and social services staff.
- Processing of Medicare and supplemental insurance forms and
claims
- An outstanding feature of the Kendal at Oberlin contract
is the coverage of these health care costs when Medicare and
supplemental insurance no longer pay benefits.
Health Care Services Available at Additional Cost
Some health care services
are available on site for the convenience of the resident but
are not covered by the fees and most insurances. Such services
as dentistry, podiatry, massotherapy, and eye care, for example,
will be available on site but will be offered at the resident's
expense.
Contract Options
Kendal at Oberlin also
offers other contract options. For those who carry a qualifying
long term care insurance policy, or those who have the resources to self-insure
future health care needs, modified agreements are available. These
are more limited in health care services, but at reduced up-front
cost. In these situations, the resident assumes the risk of paying
for some health care expenses at prevailing daily rates.
Kendal offers options
for refundability. Both 50% and 90% agreements are available.
