As part of Kendal at Oberlin’s efforts to enhance recreational fulfillment and community education, volunteer opportunities are available throughout the community. These   opportunities will reflect Kendal at Oberlin’s philosophy, as well as strive to meet the needs of the residents. The Creative Arts Therapy Team helps provide opportunities for the greater community to interact with our residents who are in need of assistance.

Kendal at Oberlin offers each resident dignity and respect. We believe that activity promotes wellness and that inactivity is harmful to both mind and body. All programs are based on the fact that our residents are adults, are capable of making decisions and choices, and are encouraged to remain as independent as possible for as long as possible. The volunteers, who donate their time, help achieve this goal. There are many different opportunities for each of volunteer to use their skills when engaging with our residents.

The Creative Arts Therapy Department will coordinate the hours, training, and completion of all paperwork for individuals volunteering at Kendal at Oberlin. All volunteers will be required to complete the following process prior to beginning any volunteer program.

  • Complete a TB test – provide by Kendal
  • Interview with Kendal staff member
  • Complete orientation on Kendal at Oberlin and our policies
  • Complete training with Kendal staff member for volunteer service.

Kendal at Oberlin has opportunities for individuals from ages 16 and up. Our current needs are:

  • Reading to Residents
  • Providing outdoor walks for residents who are wheelchair bound
  • Running designed programming for Skilled Care Nursing Residents
  • Typing for a resident
  • Providing instrumental performances for Skilled Care Nursing Residents
