Exhibiting Core Values
Jerome Santo Domingo, part-time STNA in the Stephens Care Center, won first place in his competition of Nursing Assisting during the Regional Competition of Vocational Students on March 15! Jerome will took his regional achievement and represented the Lorain County Joint Vocational School in a health-related state event at the Ohio State Fairgrounds in Columbus on April 25 and 26, competing against vocational students from all over Ohio.

The establishment of JoDar’s Café is a PMP goal with a focus on person-centered care createdby STNA Darlene Brown and Dining Room Attendant Josephine (Jo) Ladina. Here’s how it operates: six residents from the Stephens Care Center are invited to a very special luncheon. This luncheon is held in the Whittier Lounge twice each month. The table is set with a pretty tablecloth with matching napkins, beautiful dishes, silverware, and glasses.
Katie Keressi, RD, and Scott Stonestreet, Production Manager, plan each menu. Each luncheon has different residents invited with personal written invitations that are hand-delivered to each resident. The setup is reminiscent of inviting friends over for lunch. Each resident can fix their own plate to their liking, and Darlene and Jo are there to assist them if needed. Special dining music is optional, and if desired, the attending residents choose the music they like best. Table talk is enjoyed by all. Staff love to hear the residents discuss what they were doing in their early lives, such as the college they attended and what they studied.
