Residents Receive Arts and Writing Awards

LeadingAge Ohio Arts and Writing Resident Forum held its annual regional competition for residents of not-for-profit retirement communities in northeast Ohio on June 4th.  Kendal at Oberlin is assigned to the region serving greater Cleveland, arguably filled with more sophisticated arts and writing talents than the rest of Ohio.

Again this year, Kendal artists and writers were recognized in large numbers.  A special thank you is extended to everyone who submitted prose or poetry, paintings or pottery, weavings or writings and, of course, photography.  The work was well displayed and much admired.

Kendal at Oberlin swept the Prose Fiction category, with three residents taking 1st, 2nd and 3rd place; in Prose Non-Fiction a resident was awarded a 3rd place ribbon; 2nd place in the 3D category for any media was awarded to a resident; in Photography 2nd and 3rd place were taken by residents; and in the category of Computer Art, a resident placed 3rd.  Congratulations go to each of these eight Kendal residents.

Winners from the district competitions will be displayed, September 10-11, 2015, at the LeadingAge Ohio Annual Conference in Columbus, Ohio .  The works of Kendal residents will compete with the winners in other Ohio regions for statewide awards.

LeadingAge Ohio was founded in 1937 to assist the state’s not-for-profit providers of senior services focused on resident and client care. Traditionally concentrating on legislative advocacy efforts and educational programming, the association developed the LeadingAge Ohio Resident Forum in 1995 to share life-style enrichment opportunities with residents and clients of member providers. The Art and Writing Program was founded as an offshoot of the Forum and has organized the popular Regional Art and Writing Shows annually since the early 1990’s. In 2013, more than 1,100 entries were displayed and judged at the regional shows with more than 1,300 visitors in attendance.
