January 21, 2020 —Currently on exhibit in the Friends and Community Galleries at Kendal at Oberlin are the works of the late artist David C. Jansheski. A reception is held at Kendal on April 20th at 2:30 PM. and close friends of the artist, Thom and Ann Palmer, will speak. The show, titled “Visions of the Cosmos,” runs through May 21st.
This prolific printmaker bequeathed his entire estate, over 800 pieces of his art, an art collection, studio and home to the Community Foundation of Lorain County in order to establish an endowment to support the Arts and arts education in Lorain County.
Sale of Artworks to Benefit the Community Foundation
The Kendal Art Committee is pleased to be able to present these works in our galleries, in support of the Community Foundation. All proceeds from the sale of works from this exhibition will benefit the David C. Jansheski Fund for the Arts.
An accomplished and prolific artist and printmaker, David Jansheski’s work is found in national and international private, museum and corporate collections including the Cleveland Museum of Art and the Museum of Fine Arts Santa Fe.
David studied at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design and the Cleveland Institute of Art.
He was sought after for many public commissions. When the Frank Lloyd Wright’s Unity Temple in Oak Park Illinois was celebrating its centennial, David was invited to create a limited edition print for the occasion. He was quoted as saying, “I envisioned stars, planets, galaxies and creatures that inhabit the sky gathering in unity…either bringing light or rejoicing in its presence”. The print was titled, The Coming of Light. The University of Illinois Chicago also commissioned David for a ceiling mural titled, The Sky is Deeper than the Ocean.
He was a world traveler, always looking for inspiration and always inspiring and encouraging other artists. A lifelong passion was teaching art…especially to children.
