Kendal Early Learning Center’s Tea for Two and More

The children who attend the Kendal Early Learning Center (KELC), were able to celebrate their mothers, grandmothers and/ or grand-friends at a special tea party held the day after Mother’s Day.

Bright colored tablecloths, vases of flowers, teapots and plates of cookies awaited the children and their guests.  Teachers greeted the guests, as the Langston dining room manager made sure the teapots were full and the cookies were plenty.  Beads, for stringing a bracelet, were on the table for each child and their guest to make together.

Rebekah Field, a mother of one of the children, was involved in the planning of the event, and made colored tissue paper wrist corsages for all the guests. She said, “It’s so comforting, as a parent, to know that your child is in such a nurturing environment that helps them learn and grow.” Rebekah added that she plans to enroll her two younger children when they are age appropriate.

The room was filled with laughter, conversation and four generations…a very special morning for all.

KELC is located inside Kendal at Oberlin, a life plan community.  This unique intergenerational program combined with creative curriculum unites generations in numerous activities, which bring children and Kendal residents (also known as “grand friends”) together for shared experiences. Several mothers were unable to attend the tea, so grand-friends stepped in to be the child’s guest. KELC is a Step Up to Quality five star rated program.

Kendal Early Learning Center serves families of Kendal at Oberlin staff, as well as families of surrounding communities.
