Update to Residents on 6/7/2022
ODH Survey in Progress
Today’s news update is a little shorter than usual as we are having our expected but always unannounced survey by the Ohio Department of Health today and have been busy providing the surveyor with all the documentation requested. This survey is the annual survey of our Residential Care Facility comprising 67 of our 79 rooms in the Stephens Care Center. This survey is expected to last 2-3 days. Our last annual survey of our RCF was August 1, 2019. ODH is catching up on their work in light of the COVID pandemic. We will have another unannounced ODH survey inspecting the Skilled Nursing Facility portion of the Stephens Care Center at a future date.
The COVID Positivity Rate for Lorain County is HIGH – stay vigilant
The current percentage of people in Lorain County who test positive for COVID is 15.1%. This is triple the rate of a few weeks ago. Please stay vigilant in following our safety protocols including mask wearing in public spaces, hand washing, and appropriate social distancing. There are no changes in our policy or practices at this time. However, if we see a notable rise in cases among residents or staff, we will need to re-evaluate once again.

Grocery Program Clarification
Two weeks ago, we supplied an update in this bulletin for the grocery program but neglected to remind you that we do not provide grocery service on the weekends. If you complete your order form on a Friday or a Saturday, you will not receive your groceries the next day, instead, you will receive your order on Monday. However, should an emergency arise, please let us know and we will help!
Housekeeping/ Laundry Update
Staffing Update:
We are still in need of one full time staff member to complete the housekeeping team for the SCC. We have had a couple of leads but have not yet found the right person for this important role.
Window Cleaning Continues
- SCC Rooms: The outside windows were cleaned for all the SCC rooms last Saturday, (May 28). The inside windows (for all the residents that choose to have them cleaned) were completed in the Patterson hallway and Whittier 600 hallway last Friday, May 27. Please be aware that the crew will return Friday, June 10 to complete the inside.
- Cottages: Cottage window cleaning has been scheduled for June 22 – June 25
This year, we can offer you the opportunity to have your inside windows cleaned. This option will require your approval so a housekeeping staff member and staff member from the window cleaning service can enter your cottage. Please be assured that each staff member of the window cleaning crew will be screened daily and masked and will be accompanied by a housekeeping staff member.
Window cleaning schedule and details:
- Phase I, (188-199) June 22
- Phase II, (212-223) June 23
- Phase III (200-211) June 24
This will include all upper windows inside and outside cottage, patio upper windows inside and outside, and all outside lower patio windows (housekeeping will do insides).
Renovated cottages: none of these have enclosed patios, back patio upper windows inside and outside, and lower outside sliding door windows
Classic cottages: Outside enclosed patio windows only – including sun windows to the few that have them on top of the patio
More information will be shared in an upcoming memo but if you have any questions at this time, please contact Crystal Hall at cyhall@kao.kendal.org or by phone: 440-775-9199.
Laundry News:
As promised, we have the date for the next laundry tour! The next tour is June 23. A sign-up sheet has been placed by the mailboxes at the Front Desk.
