Update to residents on 6/20/2023

Wednesday—Don’t miss the Community Foundation of Lorain County’s Annual Meeting

Kendal is pleased to host the Community Foundation’s annual meeting tomorrow, Wednesday, June 21 from 11 am until 2 pm in the Auditorium and Heiser Lounge. Kendal Residents are welcome to sit in on the meeting and presentations. Afternoon Exchange

The next Afternoon Exchange will be next week on Tuesday, June 27, at 4 pm in the Auditorium and on KOTV. For your awareness, starting in July and going through August and September we will have Jay Shrewsbury, of Cable Co-Op present a series of topics for those using their services and their overall plans for Kendal.  They are also arranging for a vendor to help dispose of any e- waste our residents/staff have. Stay tuned.

Safe Summer Walking Around Kendal

Now that the weather is warmer as we enter the summer season, it is pleasant to walk the perimeter path around Kendal, often in the company of friends and coworkers.  Please pay attention when enjoying conversations while you stroll so you don’t step off the asphalt path, trip, lose your balance, and fall. We enjoy our naturalized grounds, but they are not perfectly flat, and stones can get scattered onto the walk, causing a hazard.  A final tip is to ensure you wear sturdy footwear for walking.  Summer sandals may be fashionable, but they will not necessarily provide the support your feet need to keep you balanced and injury-free during your walks. Enjoy—and please don’t walk in the roadways—so we all have a safe KaO summer! –Toni Merleno, Risk Manager

Dining Update

I am pleased to report a strong applicant response (16) to our online postings for the open Director of Hospitality Services.  Interviews are beginning this week with the applicants who are best qualified (about 6) to lead Kendal’s culinary and environmental operations.  I will keep you updated as our process continues.

CandooTech lesson about “iCloud Backup”

Last Wednesday, June 14th, CandooTech provided the second group lesson to our residents – iCloud Backup.  The recording/YouTube video has been received and you can access the training using the following link:

The next lesson, Windows 10 Basics, will take place July 5 from 1:00-2:00.  Once again, for those residents who would like to gather together for the lesson, come on over to the Education Center Training Room.  You can also join the zoom meeting, https://us02web.zoom.us/j/88640164622  Meeting ID: 886 4016 4622.  Any questions, please contact Don Mulica (440-775-9875) or Judy Miller (440-776-5011).

The Rescue of John Price

A play dramatizing the rescue of John Price, a fugitive from slavery in 1858, will be performed in the Wurtzel Theater (Oberlin College campus) on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday (June 23-25) at 7 PM. Oberlin citizens seized John Price from a slave-catcher and U.S. Marshals in Wellington, spiriting him safely to Canada and triggering Fugitive Slave Act arrests, trials, and a cause celebrate that advanced Abolitionism and the path to U.S. Civil War.  Epic theater with outstanding playwright, director, actors, and community support. Kendal bus sign up for Friday performance. Contact Phyllis Gorfain for a reserved seat for any of the nights.

Reminder about Pride events

Please check out the KaO Community Pride Bulletin Board (near the Early Learning Center) for the latest LGBTQ+ info, weekly movies, and events. This Saturday, June 24. It is not too late to contact Dina Schoonmaker if you can sit at a table for 2 hours and help hand out chalk to artists young and old. Help is still needed! If you are new, don’t miss an opportunity to walk the downtown area while art is in the making!

Putting Tournament & Bocce Tournament

Both are looking for players! Reach out to Jack Secrist and Betsy Baumbach, respectively. A team can be arranged for you. Don’t miss the fun.

Employee Appreciation Week at Kendal at Oberlin

Employee Appreciation Week kicks off 6/26. Keep an eye out for two bulletin boards that will be located outside the Langston and near the Stephens Care Center desk.
