Kendal Mom and Son Work in Aging Services

Kim Leek, Kendal’s Director of Nursing, has a new co-worker – her 17-year-old son Tyler.

A 2023 North Olmsted High School graduate, Tyler took advantage of Kendal’s State Tested Nursing Assistant Program and accepted a PRN position as a nurse’s aide at Kendal. He is currently in orientation.

Kim will not be supervising Tyler, and mother/son paths will rarely cross at work because he plans to work nights and Kim works days.

Kim’s Commitment to Caring Inspired Tyler

mother and son - Kim and Tyler“I am proud of Tyler! He really enjoys working at Kendal at Oberlin and I know he’ll do a great job as he continues to grow in his new role,” Kim says.

Kim began her career with Kendal as an RN Clinical Educator in 2014 and obtained her master’s in nursing in 2019. Kim earned certification as an Infection Preventionist in 2020, serving the entire community in this critical role through the COVID-19 pandemic. She was named Assistant Director of Nursing for the Stephens Care Center in 2021 and director in June 2023. “I have been in the healthcare field for over 23 years. I have always worked in hospitals and long-term care facilities. My passion is with older adults, I love the stories they share,” Kim says.

Kim and her husband have four adult children – Tyler is the youngest. Kim’s sister is also a nurse (in labor and delivery) and she has several cousins who work in health care.

“When I am not working, I enjoy watching movies and spending time with my family. I also enjoy visiting my granddaughter, who lives in Virginia with her parents. In all, we have four granddaughters,” she says.
